Question

Find the probability that a number selected from numbers 1 to 25 is not a prime number when each of the number is equally likely to be selected

Or

In a single throw of dice, what is the Probability of getting a prime number on each dice?

Solution

A number is selected randomly from numbers 1 to 25

→ Total number of outcomes = 25

Composite numbers from 1 to 25

4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25

→ Total number of composite numbers from 1 to 25 = 15

P(not a prime number) = P(composite number) = 15/25 = 3/5

Answer :- 3/5

Or

When a pair of dice is thrown once, total number of possible outcomes = 36

Here, favourable outcomes = (2, 2), (2, 3), (2, 5), (3, 2), (3, 5), (3, 3), (5, 2), (5, 3), (5, 5)

Total number of favourable outcomes = 9

→ Probability = 9/36 = 1/4

Answer :- 1/4
