Solution!!

6(x - 1) = 5(x + 1)

Distribute 6 through the parentheses

6x - 6 = 5(x + 1)

Distribute 5 through the parentheses

6x - 6 = 5x + 5

Move the variable to the left hand side and change its sign

6x - 6 - 5x = 5

Move the constant to the right hand side and change its sign

6x - 5x = 5 + 6

Collect the like terms

x = 5 + 6

Add the numbers

x = 11

Hence, the value of x is 11.

Verification:-

6(x - 1) = 5(x + 1)

Taking LHS

= 6(x - 1)

= 6(11 - 1)

= 6(10)

= 60

Taking RHS

= 5(x + 1)

= 5(11 + 1)

= 5(12)

= 60

LHS = RHS

Hence, verified.
