Solve the equation.

 {tan}^{2} x = 1 \\ \\ tan \: x = \sqrt{1} \\ \\ \tan(x) = ±\:1 \\ \\ so \\ \\ tan \: x = 1 \\ \\ or \\ \: tan \: x = - 1

So,

tan \: x = 1 \\ \\ x = {tan}^{ - 1} (1) \\ \\ = {tan}^{ - 1} (tan \: ( \frac{\pi}{4} ) \\ \\ x= \frac{\pi}{4}

and

tan \: x = - 1 \\ \\ x = {tan}^{ - 1} ( - 1) \\ \\ = {tan}^{ - 1} (tan( - \frac{\pi}{4} ) \\ \\ x = - \frac{\pi}{4}

thus values of x are π/4, -π/4
