by sridharacharya we have x= (-b +-√b²-4ac ) / 2a
and by ur equation we have
a = 1
b= -2
c = -16
thus
x={ - (-2) +- √(2² - 4. 1. (-16))} / 2 . 1
=(2 +- √68) / 2
= (2 + 8.246) / 2 , (2 - 8.246) / 2
= 5.123 , 3.123
or just leave it in fractional form with +-√68

The equation with us is
x²-2x-16=0
By equation method
a=1
b=-2
c=-16
D=b²-4ac
D=4+64
D=68
√D=2√17
x=-b/2a±√D/2a
2x=2±2√17
x=(1+√17).
or x=(1-√17)
x²-2x-16=0
By equation method
a=1
b=-2
c=-16
D=b²-4ac
D=4+64
D=68
√D=2√17
x=-b/2a±√D/2a
2x=2±2√17
x=(1+√17).
or x=(1-√17)
