Step-by-step explanation:

(x/5)-(y/4)=9/40

multiply by 20 to each term,

4x-5y=9/2. (1)

(x/3)-(y/2)=5/12

multiply by 6 to each term,

2x-3y=5/2. (2)

cross multiplication of equation (1) and (2),

(5/2)(4x-5y)=(9/2)(2x-3y)

10x-(25/2)y=9x-(27/2)y

10x-9x=(27/2)y+(25/2)y

x=[(27+25)/2]y

x=(52/2)y

x=26y
