Solution

Given :-

  • (x + 1) & (x + 2) are roots of this Equation (x³ + 3x² - 2px + q = 0

Find :-

  • Value of x & y.

Explanation

We know,

If (x + 1) & (x + 2) be are roots of this Equation.

that mean x = -1 & x = -2. satisfied in this Equation.

Case 1.

  • When, x = -1.

==> (-1)³ + 3(-1)² - 2×p(-1) + q = 0

==> -1 + 3 + 2p + q = 0

==> 2p + q = -2 ___________(1)

Case 2.

  • When , x = -2,

==> (-2)³ + 3(-2)² - 2p(-2) + q = 0

==> -8 + 12 + 4p + q = 0

==> 4p + q = -4___________(2)

Subtract equ(1) & equ(2)

==> 2p - 4p = 2

==> -2p = 2

==> p = -2/2

==> p = -1

keep in equ(2)

==> 4(-1) + q = -4

==> -4 + q = -4

==> q = 0.

Hence

  • value of p = = -1 .
  • Value of q = 0
