Solution :
1 ) 5x + 2 = 3x + 12
=> 5x - 3x = 12 - 2
=> 2x = 10
=> x = 10/2
=> x = 5
2 ) 2a - 5 = 8a + 1
=> 2a - 8a = 1 + 5
=> -6a = 6
=> a = ( 6 )/( -6 )
=> a = -1
