Solve the following pairs of equations by reducing them to a pair of linear equations :

 \frac{1}{3x + y} + \frac{1}{3x - y} = \frac{3}{4}

 \frac{1}{2(3x + y)} - \frac{1}{2(3x - y)} = \frac{ - 1}{8} .
