x² + 2x - 5 = 0

x² + 2x = 5

x² + 2 × x × 1 + 1 = 5 + 1

( x + 1 )² = 6

( x + 1 ) = ± √6

x = - 1 ± √6

Therefore ,

- 1 + √6 , or - 1 - √6 are roots of

given quadratic equation.
