3x² - 5x - 12 = 0
3x² - 9x + 4x - 12 = 0
3x(x - 3) + 4(x - 3) = 0
(3x + 4)(x - 3) = 0
x = 3 , x = -4/3

Hola!

Given,
To factorise
3x² - 5x - 12 = 0
We know,
-12 × 3 = -36
And -9 × 4 = -36

So,

3x² - 9x + 4x - 12 = 0
=> 3x(x - 3) + 4(x - 3) = 0
=> (3x + 4)(x - 3) = 0
So,

3x + 4 = 0
=> x = -4/3

And

x - 3 = 0
=> x = 3

So,
x = -4/3 , 3

Peace out ✌️
