Answer:

x-3 is a factor of x³+x²-17x+a

x-3=0

x=3

P(x)=x³+x²-17x+a

P(3)=(3)³+(3)²-17×3+a

P(3)=27+8-51+a

P(3)=35-51+a

P(3)=-16+a

x-3 is a factor of x³+x²-17x+a

Therefore, remainder is 0

=>-16+a=0

=>a=16

Therefore the value of a is 16
