Required number is 30.

Solution:

Let the required number be x.

According to the given data, it seems to be a linear equation in x

Seven times the number gives 7x

Adding a fifty to that number gives 7x + 50 ____ (1)

To reach a triple century means the above equation needs to be equated to 300

Still forty is required for it to be equated to 300

7x + 50 = 300 – 40

7x +50 + 40 = 300

7x + 90 = 300

7x = 300 – 90 = 210

7x = 210

x =  \bold{\frac{210}{7}}  = 30
