Given:

x + 3 = 2y ; 2x + y = 14

To find:

The solution of the equations.

Solution:

we have given the equation as:

x + 3 = 2y ; 2x + y = 14

we can rewrite the following as:

x -2y = 3----------(I)

2x + y = 14-------------(II)

Multiply the equation (II) with 2 then add it to (I)

4x + 2y = 28

x - 2y = 3

5x     = 31

x = 31/5

now putting the value of x in any of the equation we get the value of y as:

x + 3 = 2y

31/5 + 3 = 2y

2y = 31+15/5

2y = 46/5

y = 23/5

Now you can draw the graph of the given lines with this as their common point.

Hence, The solution of the equations is (31/5, 23/5)
