ANSWER:

  • Value of x = 35/3 and y = 70/3

GIVEN:

  • y = 2x
  • 7x-2y = 35

TO FIND:

  • Value of 'x'and'y'.

SOLUTION:

=> y = 2x. ...(I)

=> 7x-2y = 35. .....(ii)

Putting y = 2x in eq(ii) [from eq(I)]

=> 7x-2(2x) = 35

=> 7x-4x= 35

=> 3x = 35

=> x = 35/3

Putting x = 35/3 in eq(I) we get;

=> y = 2(35/3)

=> y = 70/3

Value of x = 35/3 and y = 70/3

NOTE:

  • This method of finding the value of x and y is called substitution method.
  • in substitution method we substitute the value of one variable in the second equation.
  • In this way we can find the value of x and y by substitution method.
