let take

3x + 8y -12 = 0 (I)

3x + 2y + 6 = 0 ll)

subtract equation Il from I

3x + 8y - 12

-3x - 2y - 6

= 6y - 18

6y = 18

y = 18 /6

y= 3

put y = 3 in equation I

3x + 8(3) - 12 = 0

3x + 24 - 12 = 0

3x + 12 = 0

3x = - 12

x = 12/-3

x= -4
