2x+y=10

x-y=2

----------------

Put both in slope intercept form:

y = -2x + 10

y = x - 2

-------------------------

Plot a couple of points for each one and draw a line thru each pair.

y = -2x +10

If x=0, y = 10 giving you point (0,10)

If x=1, y = 8 giving you point (1,8)

------------------------------

Y = x -2

If x = 0, y = -2 giving you point (0,-2)

If x = 1, y = -1 giving you point (1,-1)

Elimination method

2x + y = 10 -  -  -  -  - (1) \\ x + y = 2 -  -  -  -  -  - (2) \\  \\ equation \: (1) \: and \: (2) \: by \: subtracting \\  \\ 2x + y = 10 \\     \frac{ + x + y = 2}{x   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: = 8} \\  \\ x = 8 \: put \: in \: equation \: (1) \\  \\ 2(8) + y = 10 \\ 16 + y = 10 \\ y = 10 - 16 \\ y =  - 6

x=8; y= -6
