Answer:

x = 1 , y = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

1/3 x + y = 10/3 --------------(1)

2 x + 1/4 y = 11/4 --------------(2)

by multiplying equation (1) with 1/4

we get:-

1/12 x + 1/4 y = 10/12 -----------(3)

2 x + 1/4 y = 11/4 --------------(2)

by subtracting both equations (3) & (2)

we get:-

( 1/12 - 2 ) x = ( 10/12 - 11/4 )

{ ( 1 - 24 ) / 12 } x = { ( 10 - 33 ) / 12 }

( - 23 / 12 ) x = - 23 / 12

by neglecting ( - 23 / 12 ) from both sides

we get :-

x = 1

putting x = 1 in equation (1) we get:-

1/3 * 1 + y = 10/3

1/3 + y = 10/3

y = 10/3 - 1/3

y = 9/3

y = 3
