Solve the simultaneous equations
x+2y=−1
x=5+y

Given x+2y=-1........(ii)

        x=5+y..........(i)

Substitute (i) in (ii)

5+y+2y=-1

3y+5=-1

3y=-6

y=-2

From( i)

x=5+(-2)

 =5-2

  =3
