Answer:

( a ± b ) / 2

Step-by-step explanation:

= > 4x^2 - 2( a + b )x - 2( a - b )x + ( a^2 - b^2 ) = 0

= > 4x^2 - 2ax - 2bx - 2ax + 2bx + ( a^2 - b^2 ) = 0

= > 4x^2 - 4ax + ( a^2 - b^2 ) = 0

On comparing the above equation with ax^2 + bx + c = 0 : a = 4 ; b = -4a ; c = ( a^2 - b^2 )

Using quadratic equation :

= > x = ( - ( - 4a ) ± √( 16a^2 - 4( 4 )( a^2 - b^2 ) ) ) / 8

= > x = { 4a ± √( 16a^2 - 16a^2  + 16b^2 ) } / 8

= > x = { 4a ± √( 16b^2 ) } / 8

= > x = ( 4a ± 4b ) / 8

= > x = ( a ± b ) / 2
