Answer:

5/8m

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that

Piece of wire is 7/8 long

When it broke in two piece

one piece is of 1/4m long

To find

Length of another piece

Solution

Let

l is the total length of piece of wire

l1 is as one piece

l2 is as another piece

then as per given

l = l1 + l2

as full piece is broke in two piece then

 \frac{7}{8}  =  \frac{1}{4}  + l2

to find l2

l2 =  \frac{7}{8}  -  \frac{1}{4}

as base of fraction is not same hence we will take lcm.

lcm of 4 and 8 is 8. hence

l2 =  \frac{7 \times 1 - 1 \times 2}{8}

by solving we get

l2 =  \frac{5}{8}

hence length of another piece is 5/8m.
