1) In India, roadways have preceded railways. They still have an edge over railways in view of the ease with which they can be built and maintained. The growing importance of road transport vis-à-vis rail transport is rooted in the following reasons; (a) construction cost of roads is much lower than that of railway lines, (b) roads can traverse comparatively more dissected and undulating topography, (c) roads can negotiate higher gradients of slopes and as such can traverse mountains such as the Himalayas, (d) road transport is economical in transportation of few persons and relatively smaller amount of goods over short distances, (e) it also provides door-to-door service, thus the cost of loading and unloading is much lower, (f) road transport is also used as a feeder to other modes of transport such as they provide a link between railway stations, air and sea ports.

2) The definition of tourism is “The cultural, recreational and commercial visit to internal places is known as tourism” Tourism is known as trade. Foreign tourist's arrival in the country contributing 21828/- crore of foreign exchange. More than 15 million people are directly engaged in the tourism industry.

3) The volume of traffic and passengers is very large. ii Road network is inadequate. iii Half the roads are unmetalled which limits their usage in rainy seasons. iv National highways to are inadequate.

4) The major objective of these Super Highways is to reduce the time and distance between mega cities of India. These projects have also helped in the economic development of the country. These highway projects are being implemented by the National Highway Authority of India NHAI.

5) Features of using waterways are:

1. Waterways are the cheapest means of transport and most suitable for carrying heavy and bulky goods.

2. They are fuel-efficient and environment friendly mode of transport.

3. Heavy and bulky goods being exported or imported are easier for trans-shipment from waterways to ships on the coast, as the waterways lead to ports.

6) a) It is the important mode of transportation for freight and passengers in India. b) The railway does multipurpose activities like business, sightseeing, pilgrimage along with transportation of goods over long distances. c) Railways have also been an integrating force for 150 years.

7) (i) Pipelines are use to transport water in cities,big towns and industrial units. (ii) There are also use in transporting petroleum products,crude oil,natural gas etc. (iii) Solids can also be transported through pipelines when converted into slurry.
