Explanation:

The SI unit of kilogram per cubic metre (kg/m3) and the cgs unit of gram per cubic centimetre (g/cm3) are probably the most commonly used units fordensity. 1,000 kg/m3 equals 1 g/cm3.

We have to find the conversion factor for SI & CGS units of density.

We know,

Density = Mass / Volume

In S.I system,

  • Unit of mass is kg.
  • Unit of volume is

While in CGS system,

  • Unit of mass is g.
  • Unit of volume is cm³

Now, Let us find the conversion factor. The value of 1 kg/ in CGS system would be the conversion factor for CGS,

⇒ Density = Mass / Volume

⇒ Kg / m³

We know,

  • 1 kg = 1000 g
  • 1 m = 100 cm , 1 = 10 cm³

⇒ 1000 g / 10⁶ cm³

⇒ 10³ g / 10⁶ cm³

⇒ 10⁻³ g cm⁻³

Here, The conversion factor is 10³

☛ Multiply the value by 10⁻³ to convert it into CGS system.

☛ Divide the value by 10⁻³ to convert it into S.I system.

Some Examples :-

[1]

In SI,

  • 2.3 kg m⁻³

Multiply the value by 10⁻³ to convert it into CGS system.

⇒ 2.3 × 10⁻³

0.0023 g cm⁻³

[2]

In CGS,

  • 0.0032 g cm⁻³

Divide the value by 10⁻³ to convert it into SI system.

⇒ 0.0032 / 10⁻³

⇒ 0.0032 × 10³

3.2 kg m⁻³
