Son 1/2 of 1/2= 1 /4

Daughter 1/3 of 1/2 = 1/6

work out how much he has sold or given away

1/2 +1/4+1/6 can also be shown as 6/12+3/12+2/12 which =11/12 given away

So he had 1/12 left from the original amount

To add or subtract fractions make the bottom numbers the same ie

1/2 can be shown as 2/4, 3/6 , 6/12

1/4 can be shown as 2/8, 3/12

1/6 as 2/12

ie multiply the top number by the same amount as the bottom number
