hey mate

here is the answer....

refer to the attachment to co-relate!

let the h m be the height of the tower.

let the shadow of the tower be x m when the sun's altitude is 60°.

so,the shadow of the tower would be (x+40) m when the sun's altitude is 30°.

so,

tan 60°=h/x

=>√3=h/x

=>x=h/√3

also

tan 30°=h/(x+40)

=>1/√3=h/(x+40)

=>(x+40)=√3h

=>x=√3h-40

since,

x=x [in both cases]

=>h/√3=√3h-40

=>h=√3(√3h-40)

=>h=3h-40√3

=>h-3h=-40*1.732

=>-2h=-40*1.732

=>h=20*1.732. [÷by -2 on both sides]

=>h=34.64 m(Answer)

thus,

the height of the tower is 34.64 m.
