Answer:

x=9, y=5

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=14..........(i)

x-y=4..........(ii)

Elimination method:

Now, (i)-(ii),

x+y-(x-y) = 14-4

》x+y-x+y = 10

》2y = 10

So, y= 5

Now, using value of y in (ii),

x-5 = 4

》x= 9

Ans: x= 9,y=5

Cross multiplication method:

Now,

x/ {(1×-4)-(-14×-1)} = y/ {(-14×1)-(1×-4)} = 1/ {(1×-1)-(1×1)}

》x/ (-4-14) = y/ (-14+4) = 1/ (-1-1)

》x/ -18 = y/ -10 = 1/ -2

》9/-18 = 5/-10 = 1/-2

Thus, x= 9, y=5
