p^2-12p+32=0
multiply and divide by 2 to coefficient of p
p^2-2*12p/2+32=0
p^2-2*p*12/2+{12/2}^2-{12/2}^2+32=0
{p-12/2}^2-144/4+32=0
{p-12/2}^2=144/4-32
{p-12/2}^2=144-128/4
{p-12/2}^2=16/4
p-12/2=+- 4/2
p=4/2+12=16/2=8
and
p=-4+12/2=8/2=4
therefore,p= 8 & 4.
