Here is the solution
Equation = y^2+1/3y-2=0
formula=b^2-4ac
=(1/3)^2-4*1*-2
=1/9+8
=73/9

( {1 }^{2}  \div  {3}^{2} ) - 4 \times 5 \times ( - 2)
this becomes 1/9+40=361/9
now y=
 (- b +  -  \sqrt{d} ) \div 2a
so here y=
 (- (1 \div 3)  +  -( \sqrt{361}  \div 3)) \div 10

so you two values of y one with the sign between b and d as + and one with the sign in between b and d as -.
