Answer:

\frac{-7}{4}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :x+\frac{1}{2}x+3=\frac{3}{8}

To find : Solve for x

Solution:

x+\frac{1}{2}x+3=\frac{3}{8}

x+\frac{1}{2}x=\frac{3}{8}-3

\frac{3}{2}x=\frac{-21}{8}

x=\frac{-21 \times 2}{8 \times 3}

x=\frac{-7}{4}

So, the value of x is \frac{-7}{4}

Given :     (x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

To Find : Solve for x

Solution:

(x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

Cross multiply

=> (x + 1) 8  = (2x + 3) 3

Apply distributive property

=> 8x + 8  = 6x  + 9

Subtract 8 from both sides

=> 8x + 8 - 8 = 6x + 9 - 8

=> 8x = 6x + 1

Subtract 6x from both sides

=> 8x - 6x = 6x + 1 - 6x

=> 2x = 1

Divide both sides by 2

=> 2x/2 = 1/2

=> x = 1/2

Verification :

(x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

LHS = (1/2 + 1)/(2(1/2)+ 3)

= (3/2)/( 4)

= 3/8

= RHS

x = 1/2
