Answer:

x + 2y = 11 .....1

x - 4y = 5 .....2

multiply equation 1 by 2

=> 2x +4y =22

x - 4y = 5

equating y from both the equations as they have opposite signs

=> 3x = 27

so, x = 27÷3

= 9

put the value of x in equation 1 to find y

equation 1 is x + 2y = 11

9 + 2y = 11

2y = 11 - 9

2y = 2

y = 2÷2

y = 1

the value of x = 9 and y = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

x+2y=11

x-4y=5

(x+x)(+2y+4y)=(+11+5)

=(2x)(+6y)=(16)

=2x+6y=+16
