x+y=14        1)

x−y=4         2)

On adding 1 and 2, we get,

2x=18

x=9

Putting this value in equation 2, we get,

9−y=4

y=5

Hence, x=9 and y=5.

2x - 2y = 2 \\ 2x - y = 4 \\  \underline{ \:  \: \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   \:  \:  \: } \\  - y = 2 - 4 =  - 2 \\  \\  \boxed{\sf y = 2}

so , from x - y = 2

x - 2 = 2

x = 2+2 = 4
