Solution :-

Q: Equation are :-

x + y = 5 ______(i)

2x - y = - 2 ______(ii)

Adding equation (i) and equation (ii) we get,

=> x + y + 2x - y = 5 + (-2)

=> 3x = 5 - 2

=> x = 3/3 = 1

Now, Substituting the value of x in equation (i) :

=> 1 + y = 5

=> y = 5 - 1 = 4

Verification :

Substituting the value of x and y in equation (i) and equation (ii) :

=> x + y = 5

=> 1 + 4 = 5

=> 2x - y = - 2

=> 2 × 1 - 4 = - 2

Hence, Verified.

Therefore,

Answer:

x = 1 and y = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

x + y = 5

y = 5 - x  ... ( i )

2 x - y = - 2

y = 2 x + 2 ... ( ii )

From ( i )  and  ( ii )

5 - x = 2 x + 2

2 x + x = 5 - 2

3 x = 3

x = 1

Now putting x = 1 in ( i )

y = 5 - x  ... ( i )

y = 5 - 1

y = 4

Thus we get x = 1 and y = 4

Verification :

x + y = 5

L.H.S = x + y

         = 1 + 4 = 5

L.H.S.  =  R.H.S

2 x - y = - 2

L.H.S = 2 x - y

         = 2 - 4

         = - 2

L.H.S.  =  R.H.S

Hence verified .
