Solve x+y=5 and x-y-1=0 by elimination

x + y = 5 ....................(1)
x - y -1 = 0 
⇒ x -y = 1........................(2)

x + y = 5 
x - y = 1 

NOW we can cancel y from both equation and we will sum x with x and 5 with 1

2x = 6
x = 6/2
x = 3 

NOW we put this value of x in (1)
3+ y =5
y = 5 -3
y = 2
