Answer :-

y = 40

Solution :-

 \sf \dfrac{y}{4} - 3 = 7

Traspose - 3 to RHS [ - 3 becomes 3]

 \sf \dfrac{y}{4} = 7 + 3

 \sf \dfrac{y}{4} = 10

Transpose 4 to RHS [Division becomes multiplication]

 \sf y = 10 \times 4

 \sf y = 40

 \sf \therefore \: y = 40

Verification :-

 \sf \dfrac{y}{4} - 3 = 7

 \sf \implies \dfrac{40}{4} - 3 = 7

 \sf \implies 10 - 3 = 7

 \sf \implies 7 = 7

Extra Information :-

• y/4 - 3 = 7 is a simple equation.

• These can be solved by transposing terms LHS to RHS or RHS to LHS.

Transposing rules

1) Addition(+) becomes Subtraction(-)

2) Subtraction(-) becomes Addition (+)

3) Division becomes Multiplication

4) Multiplication becomes Division

5) Square root (√) becomes square (²)

6) Square(²) becomes square root (√)
