To solve

2x² + 9x + 10 = 0 By using Quadratic formula.

Solution

We know that, for an equation ax²+bx+c=0 where a ≠ 0 , the formula to find x is

\qquad \qquad\bigstar\boxed{\rm x = \dfrac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}}\bigstar

in 2x² + 9x + 10 = 0

a = 2

b = 9

c = 10

Hence,

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 \pm \sqrt{(9)^2 - 4(2)(10)}}{2(2)}

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 \pm \sqrt{81 - 80}}{4}

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 \pm \sqrt{1}}{4}

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 \pm 1}{4}

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 + 1}{4} = \dfrac{-8}{4} = -2

Or

\dashrightarrow\rm x = \dfrac{-9 - 1}{4} = \dfrac{-10}{4} = -\dfrac{5}{2}
