These projects serve multiple uses once constructed so they are known as multi-purpose projects

Some uses of such projects are,
1) provides water for irrigation/agriculture

2) provides water for human and industrial consumption

3) helps to prevent flooding

4) provides lake for fisheries/fishing businesses

5) provides infrastructure for many purposes

6) provides water for cooling for nuclear power plants

7) improved water transportation

8) Recreation

9) Generation of hydroelectric

10) prevent Tidal flooding

11) provides lake for breeding fishes of endangered species

12) Improved inland transport (like the dam wall can be also used as a bridge for people & vehicles to cross the river)
