I don't think you should go out of your way to use flowery vocabulary. It will seem very try hard and unnecessary. Use the language you are familiar with. Just be grammatically correct.

For good words you can refer to a thesaurus
Important points are as follows:-
1)Start in an abstract manner as if the first sentence comes from no where .
2) Don't introduce all your characters at once . Take your time and describe them one by one.
3)Give specific characteristics or nature that are interesting and different to your characters
4)USE DIALOGUES. That's one important thing of a story.
5)Don't waste time in describing only one incident. Mention many incidents
6)Your story should preferably have a message or inner meaning. These things will impress your reader
7)Play with emotions of your reader . Write things that will touch your reader emotionally but make sure you don't hurt their sentiments.
8) You should never completely end your story. Keep the reader guessing.
9)Be truthful and honest. Write what you feel.
