Some hot water was added to 3 times the mass of cold water at 10 degree Celsius and the resulting temperature was found to be 20 degree Celsius. What was the temperature of the hot water?

kvnmurty: is mass of cold water = 3 times the mass of hot water

mass of hot water = M.  let its temperatur be T  deg C
mass of cold water = 3 * M    three times mass of hot water.
cold water is at 10 deg C
final temperature = 20 C
So WRITE equation for balancing the Heat energy
       M T  + 3M 10  =  (M + 3M) 20
     = M T + 30 M  =  4M * 20 = 80 M          cancel M
     T + 30 = 80            T = 50 deg Centigrade
