The reason behind large concentration of contton textiles around Maharashtra are:-
Climate:- Mumbai and Ahemdabad enjoy humid climate which is essential for this industry because thread does not break so frequently.
Transportation:- The states are well gifted with port as well as road transportation facilities.
Power:- Cheap hydroelectricity is easily available.
The problems faced by cotton textile are:-
Raw material:- The industry faces the problem of building up a regular supply of its raw material- cotton- inadiquate quantities.
Problem of power:- Frequent power cuts and load shedding has affected the industry badly.

The cotton textile industries were mainly concentrated in
the cotton growing belt of Gujarat and Maharashtra, in the early years because
-
1. The moist climate of the area helped in the growth of
cotton. So raw cotton was readily available in the area.
2. There were ports nearby
so the manufactured goods could be easily transported.
3. There was enough labour force in the area. There were
farmers, cotton ball pluckers and workers who did the work of spinning,
weaving, dyeing, tailoring and sewing.
4. It was easy to access the markets for finished goods from
here.
5. Other supporting industries involved in manufacturing dyes and packaging materials were available in the area.
