Let x be the distance covered by car

So distance covered by train will be = 780 - x

Speed of car = 60kmph

Speed of train = 100 kmph

time taken = distance/speed

time taken by car = x/60

time taken by train = 780-x / 100

total time taken = 9 hours

so,

x/60 + 780-x / 100 = 9

(5x + 2340 - 3x) / 300 = 9

2x + 2340 = 2700

2x = 360

x = 180

So distance traveled by car = 180 kms

distance traveled by train = 780 - 180 = 600kms

time taken by train = 600/100 = 6 hours

time taken by car = 180/60 = 3 hours
