EXPLANATION:

Lots of people believe that holding a sports competition in a host country can cause some problems. They think that spending money on conducting world-class sports competitions like Olympics, World Cup matches will not benefit them economically. Instead, it can be spent on developing the infrastructure of their country and improving the lives of poor people.  

But, I believe that conducting sports events in the host country results in unifying that nation's sentiments and making them proud.

For example: The 2011 ICC World Cup was conducted in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.  The final match was conducted in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, where India defeated Sri Lanka and lifted the World Cup after 28 years. India is the first country to win in a world cup final on their home soil.  

These events are attended by people from other countries along with the spectators of the hosting country. Thus, it promotes tourism and generates huge revenue.
