Absolute Growth rate (AGR)=( total growth)/ time taken.
As growth can be measured by increase or decrease in mass , surface area etc or by the quantity which can be used Conveniently .
hence here growth = change in surface area.
hence AGR = (change in surface area) /time.
Hence for A leaf:
AGR = 5 units.
for B leaf:
AGR : 5 units.
now Relative growth rate (RGR) can be represented as :
RGR = (change in surface area)/(initial area times t).
hence for A leaf :
RGR = 5/5 = 1 units.
for B leaf:
RGR = 5/50 = 0.1 units.
Hence AGR for both leaves are same but RGR for smaller one is high.

The underlined sentence means ....'A' leaf had increased much higher rate but 'B'
leaf had shown a lesser higher rate compared to 'A' leaf.
For both 'A' and 'B' leaf ,absolute growth rate is same that is 5 cm².From this we can say that Absolute Growth rate = change in surface area/time.
For 'A' leaf ,relative growth rate = 5/5 = 1
For 'B' leaf,relative growth rate = 5/50 = 0.1
so,with this we can say that relative growth rate =
change in surface area/ initial area.
