Sometimes light from distant stars takes years to reach the earth. So when we look at the light from these stars are we actually looking back in time?

light from the stars we are getting today can be said that the stars imitate that light 10 years ago but due to the distance between the stars and the earth we are getting this light 10 years after its imiting we can't say that we are looking back in time
