\underline{\underline{\bold{Question:}}}

The total age of son and his father is 55 years . 5 year ago father's age was twice the age of son . What's their present age ?

\tt{Solution:}

Let the son's age be x years.

So his father's age = ( 55 - x ) years.

5 years ago

  • The son's age = ( x - 5 ) years.
  • His father's age = ( 55 - x - 5 ) = ( 50 - x ) years.

According to question

\implies\bold{2(x-5)=50-x}\\\\\\\implies\bold{2x-10=50-x}\\\\\\\implies\bold{2x+x=50+10}\\\\\\\implies\bold{3x=60}\\\\\\\implies\bold{x=\dfrac{60}{3}=20.}\\\\\\\boxed{\boxed{\texttt{Son's age = 20 years and his father's age = 35 years.}}}
