Sonia had a total of Rs. 29x + 23y.

Given:

Sonia has notes of denominations of 5 rupees, 2 rupees, and 10 rupees. If the number of notes for 2 rupees are (2x - y), 5 rupees are (3x + 3y) and 10 rupees are (x + y).

To Find:

The total amount of money Sonia had.

Solution:

To find the total amount of money Sonia had we will multiply notes of each denomination by the respective number that Sonia had.

The number of notes of each denomination that Sonia possessed are:

Rs. 2 = (2x - y)

Rs. 5 = (3x + 3y)

Rs. 10 = (x + y)

Total amount Sonia had = 2 x (number of Rs. 2 notes) + 5 x (number of Rs. 5 notes) + 10 x (number of Rs. 10 notes)

⇒ Total amount Sonia had = 2(2x - y) + 5(3x + 3y) + 10(x + y)

⇒ Total amount Sonia had = 4x - 2y + 15x + 15y + 10x + 10y = 29x + 23y.

Hence, Sonia had a total of Rs. 29x + 23y.
