Hey there!

Let's take the number of Rs. 500 notes as x.

We know that there are a total of 250 notes. So, we have to take the number of Rs. 2000 notes as \left(250-x\right).

  • If there are x number of Rs. 500 notes, then the total sum of the value of the Rs. 500 notes will be 500 \times x = 500x.
  • If there are \left(250-x\right) number of Rs. 2000 notes, then the total sum of the value of the Rs. 2000 notes will be 2000 \times \left(250-x\right) = 500000-2000x.

Now we got the sum of each type of note, and we know that the total sum is Rs. 2,00,000 as per the question. So, when you add the individual total values, then it will be equal to the total given amount, which is shown below:

500x + \left(5,00,000-2000x\right)=2,00,000

500x + 5,00,000 - 2000x = 2,00,000

-1500x + 5,00,000 = 2,00,000

-1500x + 5,00,000 = 2,00,000

-1500x = -3,00,000

x = \dfrac{-3,00,000}{-1500}

x = 200

Number of Rs. 500 notes = x = 200 notes

Number of Rs. 2000 notes = 250-x = 50 notes
