In Triangle AOQ and POB
<PBO = <QAO ( each 90°)
<BPO = <AQO ( AQ || BP)
BP = AQ ( each 4 km)
So,
Triangle AOQ is congurent to triangle POB
=> AO = BO
Now,
AO + BO = AB
=> AO + AO = 4
=> 2 AO = 4
=> AO = BO = 2 km
NOW,
In Triangle AOQ
By Pythagoras theoram,
PO = sqrt ( 4^2 + 2^2)
= sqrt ( 16 + 4)
= sqrt ( 20)
= 2 root 5
Distance from starting point to final point = PQ
= 2 × PO
= 2 × 2 × root 5
= 4 × root 5
= 4 × 2.23
= 8.9 km (approx..)
