Species Richness (s) is a relative termthat refers to the number of species in a community, and is directly associated with measuring thediversity of species in a given area. A related term, evenness (E), is another dimension of diversity that defines the number of individuals from eachspecies in the same area.

Diversity of species is very important to keep the ecosystem stable. For example - a huge number of plant species implies huge diversity of crops.

Another example is - Species of amphibian is higher in Western Ghats than the Ghats of Eastern parts.
