It appears that some people are discriminated based on their caste still. That could be because the lower caste people are poor. If the lower caste people are very talented ro are rich, then other people respect them. The problem comes in only if the lower caste persons are poor or ignorant or illiterate.
Usually in urban areas people work their duties and not much of discrimination takes place. People generally mix in their own caste and culture. That is not discrimination. Discrimination is ill-treating someone and depriving someone of his/her privilege on the basis of caste.
The times have changed a lot. Now the world is open for all people of all castes. Perhaps there are some girijans who are backward still. Government policies make a good way for them to learn about the world and move forward. There are many reservation schemes for lower castes. So perhaps in about thirty forty years, the caste problem will be solved completely.
The mention of caste should be removed totally from the government birth certificates, applications for jobs and at other places. Only then discrimination will be erased.
