speech on India :the golden Sparrow
Answers
India was known as the Golden Sparrow in the ancient times due to its vast gold resources that made it one of the world’s wealthiest nations. Not just gold, India was also a huge storehouse of diamonds and several other gems. Although India was not aware of this potential, outsiders knew this very well. This was why our motherland was plundered from time to time, resulting in the loss of many invaluable resources.
Two such resources worth citing to indicate that India was truly a Golden Sparrow are the Kohinoor diamond and the peacock throne. Worth a hefty fortune, sadly, India has not been able to claim back these prized possessions.
Meaning Mountain of Light, the Kohinoor diamond was originally found in Andhra Pradesh in the 13th century. This uncut colorless diamond weighed a whopping 793 carats that is close to 158.6 g. It passed from hand to hand and today, it adorns the crown of the Queen of England.
The Peacock Throne was built by Shah Jahan in the early 17th century using 230kg precious stones such as sapphires, pearls and turquoises, as well as 1150g of gold! Undoubtedly, its worth was much more than the Taj Mahal. The back of the throne was designed to look like a peacock’s tail that gave it its name. The sitting portion featured a huge diamond. Following a defeat to Persia, the Persian ruler Nadir Shah took the throne to his kingdom as a symbol of victory.
