The Prime Minister of India is spearheading a campaign "Beti bachao, beti padhao". It is so true, because both boys and girls should be equally important for families to progress and prosper.
First of all, female foeticide should be treated like murder and exemplary punishment meted out to those that practice it. Secondly, those parents that encourage girls to study beyond school should be given incentives. Thirdly, girls' education at the tertiary level should be freed of all charges, especially in professions where the number of women is very low. Fourthly, female entrepreneurs must be given a lot more benefits than at present.
As a lot of injustice has been done to our women for centuries, by adopting the above measures the message will percolate and spread rapidly in our society that we will hereon welcome the birth of girls and let them bloom like a thousand flowers!
